Germany and Luxembourg were the first nations to win the European champion jersey at the European Road Championships this morning in Sangalhos, Anadia. Justyna Czapla (Germany) won the women’s junior individual time trial and Mathieu Kockelmann (Luxembourg) won the men’s.

The European Road Championships started this morning in Sangalhos, where the junior men’s and women’s individual time trial champions have already been crowned.

The female athletes were the first to finish their race, with the German national time trial champion, Justyna Czapla, winning with a time of 33m30s. French national champion Eglantine Rayer was also a contender for the win, finishing second, 45 seconds behind the winner. The Belgian national champion finished third, 48 seconds behind Justyna Czapla.

Mathieu Kockelmann (Luxembourg), also national champion in this speciality, won the junior men’s individual time trial with a time of 28m06s. Jens Verbrugghe (Belgium) was second, 19 seconds behind the winner, followed by Emil Herzog (Germany), 35 seconds behind.

In the afternoon we will have the under-23 men’s and women’s individual time trials. The women will be in competition between 3pm and 4pm and the men between 4pm and 5.25pm.
